This year the National Youth Music Theatre celebrates its fortieth anniversary. Since 1976 the company has produced over 80 musical theatre works of which 50 have been especially commissioned, including pieces from Alan Ayckbourn, Richard Stilgoe, Howard Goodall and Charles Hart, Richard Taylor, Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary, Dougal Irvine and Benjamin Till. The company has performed at The National Theatre, Sadler’s Wells, The Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, on Broadway and in the West End.
This concert will feature THREE CHEERS FOR CHRISTMAS from our version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL...
They have toured to Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Canada, The USA, Greece and Norway. They have performed seven times at the Edinburgh International Festival and 48 times on the Fringe, winning seven Fringe First awards in the process. As well as various documentaries, five NYMT productions have been televised.
NYMT has had a huge cast and many have gone on to enrich the professional stage, including Sheridan Smith, Eddie Redmayne, Lily James, Idris Elba, Jude Law and Matt Lucas.
NYMT represents the very best in work with young people through musical theatre and has enabled thousands of youngsters across the UK to develop both their creative and personal potential, leading Andrew Lloyd Webber to dub it “the best youth music theatre in the world”.
